Touring

Modern Touring

That you need not have a “sporting” car, a “veteran, vintage or classic” car, or anything else other than just… a CAR – of ANY sort, to be involved in the Sporting Car Club of South Australia?

From weeknight social cruises to garage nights, weekend events and day runs to motorsport and other areas of interest you will be made to feel welcome and have the chance to show your car or just talk with like minded enthusists

Call the front desk (08) 8373 4899, Monday through Friday to enquire!

Classic Touring

You do not have to own a Classic Car to participate in the Classic Section meetings and events. You join the Sporting Car Club of SA as a member, entitling you to participate in all sections. Whilst the Classic Section focuses mainly on cars over 20 years old and built after 1945, all of our meetings and most of our runs are suitable for owners of older cars. Enthusiasts with newer cars are welcome on any of our runs and events.

Classic Meetings are held on the first Friday of each month February to December. Monthly meetings provide a supper and have cars on stage covering the theme of the meeting. Classic Meeting themes vary but at least one or two are sponsored by dealers of new cars and feature cars of their brands, new and old.

Our Club Registration Day provides owners of Classic and other cars the opportunity to register with the Club. Cars are inspected and qualify for restoration awards and people’s choice for best car. A pair of Club Registration Plaques and a Certificate are available after the day. Other Classic Section Events include Old Keels and Wheels in conjunction with The Royal SA Yacht Squadron and our Annual Sunseeker in June, which is a 3 day event. Joining in with the Classic Section will enable you to experience many of the benefits without necessarily purchasing a vehicle. The passenger seat of an Alfa Romeo Spyder might not be the driver’s seat, but it’s still better than the family car! Anyone who has participated in the “Bay to Birdwood Classic” will definitely understand.

Classic events and meetings are detailed on the Calendar and in the Club magazine, Wheelspin.

Vintage Touring

The Vintage Section of the Sporting Car Club of South Australia caters primarily for any vehicle manufactured between 1919 and 1939 inclusive. The Vintage Section welcomes vehicles of all ages and types whether they are touring, sports, commercial, racing, etc, manufactured from the beginning of 1919.

By the commencement of this period the motoring industry was well established throughout the industrialised world, and produced a wide variety of interesting vehicles. We usually have a broad mixture of vehicles on our outings with drivers and their passengers enjoying themselves.

Considerable technological development took place during this time and many vehicles are capable of keeping up with modern traffic, relatively easy to maintain and yet old enough to be quite different. The Vintage Section encourages the restoration, maintenance and enjoyment of these vehicles. Many find our approach of relaxed inexpensive outings and segments on maintenance and restoration appealing. So no matter what you drive or ride please come along!

Monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of each month January to November and outings are held throughout the year where everyone is made most welcome.

Veteran Touring

Veteran cars and motorcycles are those built up to the end of 1918, a period when the Motor Industry was feeling its way along the path of mechanical progress. By today’s standards they are generally slow, lack creature comforts, and may require a great deal of “fettling” to keep them mobile. Despite, or perhaps because of this, they reward their owners with much more than a mere “get in and turn the key” car can.

Members of the Club have the opportunity to experience this early motoring era through use of the Club’s 1917 Dodge that was donated by Mr. Ral Rainsford and is assigned to a member for their use of up to 12 months. The “Club Dodge” is used at functions, car runs and other club events with the Veteran and Vintage Committee selecting the lucky member from submissions received. Contact the section chairperson for more details.

Regular outings are arranged by and for members of the Veteran Section of the Sporting Car Club, so come along to one of our meetings and discover more!

Motorcycle owners are also very welcome.
